Armstrong Aggregates, the owners of Waddington Fell Quarry, have applied to Lancashire County Council for planning permission  to extend quarrying at the site by a further 12 months to December 2023. You can read the documentation here: LCC Planning Application LC/2022/0057

Under the current planning permission, quarrying was due to end in December 2022 and restoration to start from 2023. This would have prevented the deposition of spoil from the HARP tunnels as outlined in the planning proposals from United Utilities detailed below.
