This section on the website has been created to help raise community awareness of HARP and to give the residents of Waddington Parish a chance to have their say, either directly to the HARP Consultation Team, the Parish Council or RVBC Planning Department on the submission of applications.
We aim to bring you the latest, verified news in relation to the potential impact of HARP on the Parish and surrounding areas.
United Utilities have the enormous task of delivering the Haweswater Aqueduct Resilience Programme which will upgrade the 109km pipeline that delivers water to 2.5 million people across the North West. A key section of the new pipeline will pass through a newly excavated tunnel under Marl Hill near Waddington Fell between Newton and Braddup – off Cross Lane, Bashall Eaves.
This work will require a significant amount of heavy machinery, heavy goods vehicles, and personnel to travel between the A59 and Waddington Fell to deliver the Marl Hill and the Bowland tunnel sections. How this is to be achieved is currently being planned with several feasibility surveys of the potential impact on the community, countryside, and road networks.
The feasibility studies included the consideration of a new road around Waddington village that could facilitate abnormal loads of up to 40 tonnes. In January 2021, a preferred route and associated activity has been identified and is shown below. In late June 2021, United Utilities submitted planning applications to Ribble Valley Borough Council outlining their proposals, links to the planning applications can be found below. In the coming months, the applications will be considered and heard by planning committees at both RVBC and LCC.
